Beautiful Oxford Wedding Venues

Oxford is a city full of history and beauty, making it in my opinion, one of the most magical places to say “I do.” As a local Oxford wedding photographer, I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in this world-famous city and now capture weddings and engagements in some of its most iconic venues. From quiet elopements to large celebrations in Oxford colleges, here’s a look at some of Oxford’s beautiful wedding venues through my lens.

1. THE BODLEIAN LIBRARY

Magical and steeped in history.

I truly believe there’s nowhere quite like the Bodleian. The moment you step into the Divinity School, you’re surrounded by centuries of history and breathtaking architecture. The first time I visited I was in awe of its beauty (and still am)! It’s a dream location and if you decide to get married at The Bodleian you will have an elegant and cinematic backdrop to your day which will be unforgettable for both you and your guests.

Whether you’re exchanging vows beneath its fan-vaulted ceiling or stepping out for portraits in Radcliffe Square, the Bodleian offers beauty and Oxford character everywhere you look. Therefore I am so honoured to be a recommended supplier of theirs.

The late afternoon light in the quadrangles is perfect for romantic couple portraits. With so many beautiful backdrops and options for moving, sitting or more posed portraits, especially when the tourists thin out. Also within a minutes walk are multiple Oxford landmarks; Hertford Bridge a.k.a The Bridge of Sighs, The Radcliffe Camera, The Sheldonian Theatre and on a literary theme Blackwell’s Bookshop.

Suppliers: Styling and Floristry: The Luxe Design Co, Hair and Makeup: Rachael Capocci, Harpist: Noa Davies.

2. THE RANDOLPH HOTEL

Classic Oxford luxury with a modern twist.

The Randolph is ideal for couples wanting to get ready in style and host a classic wedding ceremony and reception in central Oxford. Its hotel rooms offer gorgeous natural light and the ballroom makes a statement with the chandelier and monochrome chequered floor. The hotel is iconic to Oxford, situated opposite The Ashmolean Museum and provides an array of interiors made for sophisticated, editorial-style bridal portraits, whilst only being a five minute walk from the historic streets for outdoor portraits.

Suppliers: Planner: Acorn & Oak Weddings, Bridalwear: Bridal Box, Hair: Rachael Capocci, Makeup: Abigail Maynard, Floristry: Kate Wren Flowers, Tableware: Wren Ark, Harpist: Noa Davies.

3. THE PERCH, BINSEY

Charming, rustic and tucked away by the river.

For couples dreaming of a relaxed, nature-filled day in Oxford, The Perch is perfect. Nestled along the Thames and surrounded by meadows, it feels like a countryside escape just minutes from the city, which can even be reached by boat after a city centre ceremony.

With delicious food and a heated marquee which comfortably seats up to 120 wedding breakfast guests and 200 for an evening reception, you will be well looked after whilst immersed in nature in this rural location boasting views of The River Thames and Port Meadow just a few minutes stroll away. This backdrop also provides the perfect breather away from the wedding for some stunning couple photographs.

Suppliers: Car: Lil and Blue, Floristry: Lily and Liz, Hair and Makeup: Rachael Capocci, Styling: By Hannah Baskett, Bridalwear: Ellie Sanderson, Cake: Cakes in Bloom.

4. CHERWELL BOATHOUSE

Riverside calm and punting fun.

Tucked away beside the River Cherwell, the Cherwell Boathouse is one of Oxford’s most unique wedding venues. With its peaceful riverside setting, wooden punts and views that capture Oxford at its most idyllic, it’s a dream location for couples who love a relaxed, natural atmosphere.

Most wedding receptions take place in the marquee overlooking the water, a light, airy space, with other options available for smaller wedding parties. Guests can enjoy drinks by the river, take a punt ride and relax.

The light here in the early evening is magical. I always suggest taking a short stroll along the riverbank just before sunset for the most romantic portraits of the day, or if you are brave enough why not go punting for some action shots.

Suppliers: Hair and Makeup: Bridal by Charley, Floristry: The Garden of Oxford, Transport: Nostalgia Travel.

5. ST EDMUND HALL

Hidden away and full of character.

Known fondly as “Teddy Hall,” this venue is often overlooked but it’s one of my favourites. The grounds feel like a secret garden and The Old Dining Hall is a beautiful setting for a wedding breakfast.

Despite being situated near the busy High Street, behind its walls is a tranquil college setting. Its location means it is within easy reach of Oxford’s landmarks and positioned at the end of Queen’s Lane means you are on the doorstep of one of the most beautiful walks in the city,  walking up the lane towards The Bridge of Sighs, perfect for couple photographs.

This college feels like a private retreat. Take advantage of the garden space for quiet moments away from guests.

Suppliers: Bridalwear: Dorothy Eloise Bridal, Floristry: Fabulous Flowers, Hair: Chloe Lyford, Makeup: Isabelle Clarke.
